We stayed at the Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan for 7 nights. The resort is right on the beach, with two pools, and all the amenities you would need. All suites face the ocean and have a small balcony, the photo above was taken from our room. I have never stayed anywhere else in Mazatlan but I have never had a problem with the location. It is set away from the main strip (Golden Zone) so that you don’t get bothered too often by people trying to sell you stuff on the beach but it’s close enough that a Pulmonia is around $10 dollars including tip from the center of town.
One of the best tips from my dad is bring all your cash in dollars and trade at the resort. They exchange you money at the exact exchange rate for that day and don’t charge you a bullshit fee, just make sure you have your passport. I would change about $100 dollars at a time and leave any extra money in the safe.
I recommend visiting during the off season. Since we were there before the America schools were out for summer break we experienced an almost empty resort. The last couple of days we saw a huge increase of people and it was harder to find spots by the pool and beach. The photo above was taken from my seat by the main pool, I could enjoy the view without being offered goods every 5 minutes.
When I visit Mazatlan I like to explore and eat at some old favorites, but if you want the resort lyfe then try out Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay. It is a 30 minute drive from the more central location. There are shuttles going back and forth between the two Mazatlan locations every hour.
We spent one day at Emerald Bay, it is more upscale but I was greatly disappointed by the beach, it is not as inviting and has some shore break. The pool, pictures above, however is amazing. Try going to this location at least once on your trip.
The pool side refreshments are the same price at both locations and nothing is too expensive. They also offer 2 for 1 happy hour drinks before 1pm. I was shocked to have ordered ceviche, guacamole, a cocktail, and two beers for $30 not including tip, such a good deal.
If you have any additional questions about these resorts just ask me. The staff is always lovely and super helpful as well.
Enjoy
Ximena.
