Sup’ I am back…or trying to be. I have another review similar to this one on San Francisco. The disclaimer is that these “Hours” guides are from different sites and come from different authors.
Today I am reviewing: 24 HOURS IN OAKLAND WITH REBEKAH CAREY MCNALL OF A & B CREATIVE.
Overall I was much more impressed with this guide. Having lived in the East Bay for a couple of years I was ashamed to admit I have been to NONE of these places before. Like my other review I had a hard time sticking to the schedule, not because it was unrealistic but because I had a mini breakdown trying to navigate parking.
The first stop (pictured above) was Room 389. I enjoyed the vibe but it wasn’t the breakfast I wanted – no empanadas to be seen like the guide had mentioned. I left with a rumbling stomach.
I cheated – this isn’t a sign of Lake Merrit but it is right next to it….anyway then we wandered around the area. It is a chill spot, I get why everyone in the bay is flocking here in hopes of cheap rent.
Next we headed to Piedmont Avenue, I had no idea this area even existed. The shops are amazingly curated, I had to stop myself from buying a $30 dollar candle. We stopped at La Farine to grab a snack, I loved my cheese bread.
As an ice cream lover, I am shocked I have never been to Fentons before. My taste buds were singing.
So this is not on the guide but rather a lucky happenstance. We had skipped going to Pepples Donut Farm and headed staight for Temescal Alley. Upon finding parking, I turned to my mom commenting on the chicken sandwiches people around us were eating. Then I realized – this is Bakesale Betty, a spot I had been trying to go to even when I was living in San Francisco. How is this spot not on the guide? I have been to Pepples before and would NEVER eat that over this chicken sandwich. It was awesome – so awesome that they ran out of buns and people still bought just the chicken and coleslaw.
Soy Latte – The Cro Cafe
After Temescal Alley we were kind of done with the guide. It took us to a lot of great places but we wanted beer and headed over to Torpedo Room.
Thanks to my mom for being my hand model, my nails were not pretty that day.
Ximena.
